Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena was arrested on October 23, 2026, in Wake County, North Carolina, according to court records. The 44-year-old engineer, a resident of Raleigh, is now facing 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. This latest custody incident occurred nearly a year after his initial arrest in December 2025.
An arrest warrant indicated the new charges stem from alleged possession of sexually explicit photographs and videos depicting children. DeSena was booked into the Wake County Jail and denied bond during an initial hearing on Monday. He is scheduled to appear in court again on November 16 regarding these specific charges.
DeSena was first arrested on December 1, 2025, on two felony counts of secret peeping. Those charges involved the alleged recording of a woman in a bedroom and bathroom. He pleaded guilty to those charges on July 27, 2026. The court sentenced him to 60 months of probation and ordered 100 hours of community service.
The court also required DeSena to complete a mental health assessment by a specialist in psychosexual treatment. Records show he is currently serving that probation term while awaiting resolution of the new sexual exploitation case. His legal situation has become increasingly complex since his first arrest last winter.
DeSena gained public attention in November 2024 after winning two episodes of “Jeopardy!” He earned a total of $44,698 during that run. In January, he participated in the show’s “Winter 2025 Champions Wildcard” tournament. His fame as a two-time champion preceded his legal troubles by a few months.
